1. System Requirements
When using a computer delivered by Mahr, all hardware and operating system requirements are fulfilled.
Caution! If you want to install the MarWin software on another computer, please make sure that this computer complies with all requirements of the particular MarWin application (see document 3754530)!
In case of doubt, contact info@mahr.com for clarifying details before commissioning the computer.
Rights required
- The MarWin setup must be allowed to assign certain read and write rights. These rights must not be restricted again thereafter.
- While MarWin is running, the Windows computer must not be inhibited from doing so by any other software (third-party software) nor by the configuration of the operating system.
Problems may arise e.g. from anti-virus software, firewalls, the configured Access Policy, software for remote maintenance, software for monitoring the PC hardware or software, SCCM clients or Windows updates.
If problems due to an anti-virus software arise while using MarWin, it may be helpful to exclude the target folder for MarWin user data (usually C:\Mahr) plus its subordinate objects from the real-time scan.
Mahr ist not responsible for problems caused by such a third-party software or other restrictions!
Please note: Even when the MarWin version has been operated successfully so far, problems may arise at any moment due to updates of anti-virus software or Microsoft® Windows® 10 performed automatically at regular intervals.
Please contact your IT Department first to check whether such updates have been run recently. It may be possible to solve the problem by disabling/uninstalling the anti-virus software or the Windows update.
If the problem continues to exist, please contact our technical support department under Techsupport@mahr.com.
- Each user of the MarWin software has to be assigned certain rights in the user administration of the Windows operating system:
- Installing the MarWin software or MarWin options:
Administrator rights for Windows operating system required.
- Using the MarWin software and reading in the licenses:
During the installation process, the setup program of the MarWin software sets the read and write rights for the directories and registry to "all rights" for the "Everybody" user.
Manual changes to the user rights are only necessary if the rights established during installation are changed again by network access or by logon scripts in a network.
If that is the case, please use the following settings.
- Read and write rights required for the following registry area:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mahr
- Read and write rights required for the program folders of the MarWin software including their subordinate objects:
e.g., C:\Program Files (x86)\Mahr and C:\Program Files\Mahr
- Read and write rights required for the common files folder including its subordinate objects:
e.g., C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Mahr
- Read and write rights required for the user data target folder including its subordinate objects:
- Read and write rights required for the common application data folder including its subordinate objects:
e.g., C:\ProgramData\Mahr

6. Tips and Tricks
Data backup and restore
We recommend to back up the data of each MarWin measuring station at regular intervals!
During a backup, the data specified in a backup script are all saved to a ZIP file.
The "Backup & Restore" tool (see below) can be used to restore data that have previously been backed up in a ZIP file.
Caution!
As machine data is also backed up, the machine must be ready for operation during the data backup.
The MarWin software does not have to be closed. You should, however, make sure that no measuring program is running as machine communication is mandatory for data backup.
User administration
- The user administration of the MarWin software enables different users to work in their own directories with different user rights on the same system.
- If you create users without a password, they can log on by simply clicking their user icons. There is no need to click OK.
- If you save a photo of yourself with the file name "User.jpg" in your user directory (e.g., C:\Mahr\Users\Anyone), your picture will then appear instead of the head icon.
"Measuring station" view
- For MarWin EasyContour and MarWin EasyRoughness:
On the "Control" tab of the "Measuring Station" view, the measuring station components can also be controlled via the keyboard. The available key combinations for controlling are listed in the online help.
- We recommend you to create a new probe arm unit for every probe contained in the scope of delivery and to give this probe arm unit a unique name (e.g., its serial number) in order to ensure correct allocation of calibration data in case several probes of the same type are available.
-
When entering probe arm designations, you should avoid forward slashes ("/") since they are replaced by underline characters ("_").
This may cause problems with probe arms the designations of which already include an underline character. In this case, an error message will inform you that the probe arm could not be created.
License management
In case you want to order additional licenses for your existing Mahr License Key (MLK):
- Read off the 5-digit ID from your MLK and send it to your Mahr sales partner together with a software license order.
You will then be sent a data carrier containing the necessary license files.
- Temporarily deactivate the MLK's write protection (push the locking switch towards the open padlock icon).
- Unpack/Copy the licenses obtained to the folder \licence of the plugged-in MLK (e.g., F:\licence).
- Be sure to reactivate the MLK's write protection (push the locking switch towards the closed padlock icon).
In case you are going to order additional licenses and you do not want to read them from a Mahr License Key, but prefer to install them in the license folder of the MarWin software:
- Display the PC-dependent license request number:
In the "Measuring station" view, click the button i ("Machine data").
(For "Advanced" or "Professional" products: Switch to the "Measuring station in setting mode" view and select Tools / Machine data in the menu bar.)
Click the License request number button.
- Copy the license request number for the computer (e.g., "90.47.03.FA.92.EA <= PC") and send it to your Mahr sales partner together with a software license order.
You will then be sent a data carrier containing the necessary license files.
- Create the license folder of the MarWin software (C:\Mahr\licence) if it does not yet exist.
- Unpack/Copy the licenses obtained to the license folder of the MarWin software.
Help
- In any view you will get online help on how to operate the MarWin software either by clicking the Help button or by pressing the F1 key.
- For most on-screen elements, ScreenTips are available. These are displayed if you hover the mouse pointer over the relevant dialog element.
